There are currently 800 approved applicants on the Social Housing List for the Tipperary Cahir Cashel District. As of the end of June the council had 23 vacant houses however an increasing supply of housing is being delivered as a number of projects are reaching conclusion. In some cases, the council has designed and contracted the construction of homes, in other cases it has purchased houses from new developments led by the private sector.
10 new houses in Abbey Street Cahir are to be occupied in the very near future – in addition approximately 48 houses in total are expected to be completed in Bansha, Donohill, Ardfinnan and Cashel before Christmas. There are also plans for upwards of 94 new houses between three developments in Cashel, Clogheen and Cahir to be delivered in approximately 2024 and 2025.
The council housing list reveals that the 800 approved applicants want homes in 33 different settlements in the District. Councillors are asking the Housing Section to allow the village of Goatenbridge to be an option on the location preference list. No houses will be developed in the area unless demand can be demonstrated, however at present it is not included as a possible location for those applying for Social Housing.
