Waters Disruptions Possible Throughout Tipperary Today Due To Strike Action

Uisce Éireann is advising of potential disruption to local water services due to members of the Unite Trade Union taking industrial action today. The trade union is to begin a day of industrial action at noon today as it seeks assurances regarding the terms and conditions of water services workers who remain with local authorities instead of opting to become Uisce Eireann Employees.  Water workers represented by SIPTU were given reassurances on this matter last month that averted planned industrial action.

Uisce Eireann says it is continuing to engage with management in each Local Authority to put appropriate plans in place to ensure the continued supply of water services.

Tipperary Sinn Féin representatives are supporting the staff who choose to stay on at the local authority and want them to be given certainty as regards their conditions of employment if they remain with Tipperary County Council. If the government doesn’t address the concerns voiced by workers by next week, it is understood that the dispute will escalate to a two-day strike.
