Councillors in the Clonmel Borough are welcoming plans for a new hotel to be developed at the site of the former Clonmel Arms Hotel.
The existing hotel has been closed since 2005 and in recent years has fallen into dereliction and became a venue for anti-social behaviour.
A number of small fires in the property are thought to have been started by people living in the building without authorisation.
The huge complex extends over O’Connell Street, Sarsfield Street, Quay Street and Blue Anchor Lane. Redevelopment of the property as a hotel would be a huge boost for Clonmel Town Centre according to local Councillor John Fitzgerald.
