A local woman, Mary Kate Martin, Aherlow, is one of 75 Team Ireland Athletes and a 36 strong coaching and management team representing Ireland at the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin.
Mary Kate will compete in the Bowling Competition and this is the first time that she has been selected for Ireland.
Team Ireland athletes will join 7,000 Special Olympics athletes from 190 countries at the Games.
These Games are the biggest inclusive sports events in the world – and the biggest multi-sports event in Germany since the 1972 Munich Olympic Games.
Team Ireland will compete in 12 sports; athletics, basketball, badminton, bocce, bowling, equestrian, football, golf, gymnastics, kayaking, table tennis, and swimming.
The Special Olympics World Games run from 17 -25 June 2023.
