Sinn Féin TD for Tipperary, Martin Browne has criticised Tipperary’s government TD for failing to back local Retained Firefighters in a key Dáil vote.
The vote related to a Sinn Fein motion that would ensure that retained firefighters get fair pay, safe working conditions and safe staffing levels.
Deputy Browne says the “Retained firefighters have been pushed to the very brink by the Government and are ultimately forced into industrial action.”
Deputy Browne is calling on local TD Jackie Cahill to explain why he failed to support local firefighters.
The Cashel based TD also hit out at Deputy Michael Lowry accusing him of voting against the government in the knowledge that the government would win the vote.
Deputy Browne asks if Deputy Lowry will commit to sustaining support for the Sinn Fein position if the Government faces a tighter vote in the future.
Tipp Mid West Radio understands that Minister Darragh O’Brien is now set to make a significant offer to the Firefighters in a bid to prevent an all-out strike by Firefighters on Tuesday June 20th.
At present 50% of all fire stations in county Tipperary are off call due to the Firefighter’s industrial action – SIPTU has issued notice that an all-out strike will begin on Tuesday unless an agreement is reached.
The public are advised to call 999 or 112 in the event of any emergency and a response will be delivered.
