Sean Treacy Swimming Pool To Hold Lifeguard Courses

A range of courses are to be held at the Sean Treacy Memorial Swimming Pool, Tipperary town, to develop lifeguarding skills and swimming teachers. The courses are now taking applications and certification is provided by Water Safety Ireland.  Fees will apply for the courses as it is considered to be a pathway to future employment. Applications will close on June 23rd or when the course is full.

The three courses will take place during July and have a practical and online element.   The courses are restricted to people aged over 16 (over 18 years for the Swimming Teacher Course) and there are minimum standards of swimming ability and skill certification required to be eligible to take the courses.

The courses on offer are for certification as a Swimming Pool LifeGuard, a Swimming Teacher or an Assistant Swimming teacher.

At present there is a huge shortage of Pool lifeguards which has restricted the opening hours of some swimming pools including the Sean Treacy Memorial Pool. The pool closes by 2.30pm  on Saturday afternoon and is closed all day Sunday at present due to staff shortages.
