Part Of Tipp Town Without Power Due To Broadband Upgrades

Parts of Tipperary town are without electricity today due to planned outages to facilitate upgrades to the local broadband infrastructure.

Blind Street has restricted access and the link to St Michael’s Street is closed to facilitate the replacement of an ESB Pole.  Some existing ESB Poles are having additional features added.

Some businesses such as Tipp Mid-West Radio and the Community Services Centre were forced to hire generators to maintain operations. Businesses on Blind Street who were not affected by the power outage say they were not notified of reduced street access for traffic.

The contractor says the work is progressing and the electricity supply should be restored by approximately 3pm –  ahead of the scheduled time of 4pm. The work is being undertaken on behalf of SIRO Broadband, a joint venture between ESB networks and Vodafone.

A number of additional planned outages are expected in the town before the end of June to complete this phase of the project
