Tipperary town is getting a major influx of flowers – in hanging baskets and large containers around the town.

The local Tidy Towns Group have paid for 35 hanging baskets along Main street and Tidy Towns Volunteer Noel Murray has committed to watering the baskets daily. Mr Murray made a similar heroic contribution last year when the Tipperary Revitalisation Task Force funded the baskets.

The Residents Association in Murgasty Road have funded the installation of 8 hanging baskets. The floral additions will be most welcome as Tidy Towns Competition Adjudication will begin shortly. The addition of flowers also adds to the attractiveness of the town for residents and visitors alike. The Tipperary town Enhancement Group assisted with the transport and installation of the baskets.

The streetscape on Main Street and Bank Place will also see improvements as €100,000 allocated by the Government is to fund works on properties in the designated area. Property owners that applied for funding are to have the works completed by July. The Murals Group recently delivered the fifth of five promised murals in the town – intended to add to the attractiveness of the town and tell something of the Tipperary story.

The Town Gardener Ger Kiely and colleagues Pat English and Martin Griffin(Tipperary County Council) are also planting flowers in the containers across today and the Market Yard.  The team will also have to water the plants, no easy task in the current weather with water supplies under pressure across the county.Tipperary Tidy Towns Chairperson Paul O’Callaghan is appealing for more people to get involved with the group. The group are working on a new project around the River Arra with a River Arra Festival planned for July 29th – more details to follow.
