Tipperary County Council says it has contingency plans in place in response to the industrial action involving Tipperary retained Fire Fighters.
From midnight 6 of the 12 stations in the county will be off call.
Any call that is received will be responded to by one of the other 6 stations.Tipperary County Council says it has also engaged with fire services in the 10 bordering local authorities to be an additional resource but for now there are no plans for external crews to respond in the county.
Today’s council meeting heard that there will be delays and impacts on services in the county due to the action.
The industrial action is being undertaken as SIPTU is seeking management action to address the recruitment and retention crisis in the service.
Tipperary town fire station is short-staffed and cannot deploy the two vehicles at it’s disposal at the same time. The service nationwide is facing staff shortages.
Talks between SIPTU and the LGMA are ongoing today in a bid to reach an agreement.
The public are advised to check their smoke alarms and ensure it is in working order, to have a fire response plan in place and to call 999 or 112 if the service is required.
