Traffic Lights in Tipperary town are now back in operation following an outage earlier today which caused major disruption to the movement of traffic.
The lights are at the junction of Main Street (which is also the N24 which carries a high volume of traffic especially HGVs) and Bridge and Davis Street.
Traffic management is also in place on Davis Street and the adjacent Mitchel Street today due on ongoing works on behalf of SIRO, the broadband company.
The company had given advance notice of a planned electrical outage on Davis street today as a number of ESB poles are being replaced – causing some businesses such as restaurants and cafes on the street to close. There has been some speculation that this electrical outage may have impacted the traffic lights.
SIRO is a joint venture with ESB networks and Vodafone.
Residents in St Michaels Street report that the street lights on the new ESB poles have not worked since their installation last Thursday, June 1st.
The fault has been reported to SIRO, ESB networks and to Enerveo, the company that repairs public street lighting on behalf of Tipperary County Council.
It is understood that there will be ongoing electrical outages for the coming weeks as the infrastructure in the town is upgraded to enable the rollout of high speed broadband.
Any member of the public can report a public street light out of order by visiting the website here . The individual pole numbers are attached to each pole and are also indicated on the online map.
