Young Man Dies In Jet Ski Incident On Lough Derg

A young man has died following an incident involving a jet ski on Lough Derg yesterday.

It is understood that the deceased is from county Limerick and aged 19.

At the time of the incident there were three passengers on board.

Two teenage girls managed to get to safety after being tossed from the jet ski when it flipped over.

The two girls were wearing life jackets and were helped to safety by another teenager who jumped into the lake to help.

The deceased was lost underwater and could not be found despite efforts by others to locate him.

Emergency services, including Rescue Helicopter 115, responded and joined the search in the lake.

The victim’s body was located close to the bridge in Killaloe shortly after 7pm.

Garda are to investigate all of the circumstances of the incident and have gathered some information from a number of people at the scene at the time.  

11,856 people, including 300 children were on trolleys in the month of May according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

The Union is calling on the HSE to take immediate corrective measures to deal with the ongoing trolley crisis.
