UL Hospitals Group have released details of their preparations for the Bank Holiday weekend. The public are again asked to explore all available healthcare options before attending the Emergency Department in Limerick. Hospital management says patient flow and the avoidance of hospital admissions are the priority focus for the weekend. Additional healthcare staff are rostered to hospital and community services and the public are being reminded to use the Injury Units and Medical Assessment Units in Nenagh, St John’s and in Ennis(by GP Referral).
Community Intervention Team services will run 8am-8pm over the weekend, to ensure timely access through GP out-of-hours referral intended to result in hospital avoidance, maximum discharges and transfers. Extra triage staff will support efforts to reduce time between presentation and discharge or the decision to admit. Extra staff are also rostered in radiology to improve inpatient and ED diagnostics over the weekend, and there are additional Occupational Therapy, Medical Social Work staff to assist with facilitating patient discharges on Bank Holiday Monday.
Any patient that feels their life is at risk or with a serious injury or illness should call 999 or attend the ED at UHL, where they will be prioritised for treatment. The HSE has also provided information about local GP Services and pharmacy services on it’s website.
