HIQA has today published two inspection reports into HSE run facilities providing care for older people in Tipperary. The inspections relate to Cashel Residential Older Persons Services and St Anthony’s in Clonmel.
Cashel Residential Older Persons Service is a new centre operated by the Health Service Executive (HSE) set in the grounds of Our Lady’s hospital Cashel. It is set out over three floors and consists of three units providing a total of 60 beds. One of the units St Clare’s is a standalone unit for 11 female residents and specialises in dementia care. The other two units are in the main building in Our Lady’s hospital one on the first floor which can accommodate 29 residents and one on the second floor that can accommodate 20 residents. The unannounced inspection was completed over two days in January where there were 53 residents present.
The inspector found that overall this was a well-managed centre where the resident’s were supported and facilitated to have a good quality of life and some improvements had been made in relation to previous inspection reports – however action was still required on 8 other issues. |
Overall the unit was found to be non-compliant in respect of 3 areas – health care where there was no physio, dietician, speech and language or occupational therapist available to residents. The unit was also found to be non-compliant in respect of fire precautions and the contract for services to residents. An action plan is also agreed in the inspection report to address these issues. On 6 other regulations the unit was deemed substantially compliant and fully compliant with 15 other regulations. The HSE Unit has applied to HIQA for renewal of it’s registration for the next 3 years.
The full reports can be accessed on the HIQA website.
