Positive momentum is continuing for the Government’s Housing For All plan according to Fianna Fáil TD Jackie Cahill.
Housing for All contains a projected housing output of 29,000 new homes in 2023 and 33,450 in 2024. The latest new home completion figures to the end of March 2023, published by the Central Statistics Office(CSO) show progress in reaching those targets. CSO figures show 6,716 new homes were completed in the first three months of this year. The latest commencement notice data show that 7,349 homes commenced on-site in the first three months of 2023. This is the highest first quarter commencement level of activity since records began in 2014.
There is also a strong pipeline of social and affordable housing, with over 19,000 social homes at various stages of construction and over 2,700 more affordable homes already approved for funding according to the Tipperary TD. “These figures also pre-date the Government’s announcement to waive development levies and rebate Irish Water connection charges for the next 12 months.” The Government is also to provide up to €750M in funding to developers to speed up the construction of units that already have planning permission.
