Clarity Regarding Community Nursing Unit In Cashel Is To Be Provided By Minister Mary Butler Tomorrow

Tipperary TD Jackie Cahill says clarity around the 60 bed community nursing unit planned for Cashel is to be provided by Minister Mary Butler tomorrow when she briefs Deputy Cahill, Senator Ahearn and two Cashel councillors – namely Cllr Roger Kennedy and Cllr Declan Burgess about the project.
The Department of Health revealed recently that the HSE now considers the planned site at St Patrick’s hospital to be unsuitable for the new unit and says that an alternative site in Cashel will have to be found.
Deputy Cahill is confident that the unit will be delivered in Cashel and says the priority is that appropriate high quality care and facilities are provided for older people in the town.
If there were economic advantages to constructing the 60 ensuite units on a greenfield site that would have be taken into consideration according to Deputy Cahill.
The TD says HSE answers on the project at a briefing two weeks ago were vague and but if political pressure to ensure the investment is made in Cashel is necessary the government will respond appropriately to ensure the project is delivered as quickly as possible.
