The final 63 branches of Ulster Bank are to close today as the bank leaves the Irish retail bank market – the branches in Clonmel and Nenagh will close today.
The bank has been trading in Ireland in some form since 1836. Ulster bank ATM services will end in three weeks’ time. Today’s closures will affect approximately 450 staff. Ulster Bank had around 1.1 million customers when it announced two years ago that it planned to withdraw from the Republic of Ireland market. The Bank says customers with remaining accounts should move their accounts to a new institution as soon as possible.
The bank, along with the Banking and Payments Federation Ireland and Safeguarding Ireland says dedicated phone lines and supports for vulnerable customers moving bank account, as well as their carers, remain in place across all five retail banks.
The Thurles Branch closed on January 13th and has since reopened as a branch of Permanent TSB.
