Tipperary county council are seeking to hire a new dog warden. The position comes with a starting remuneration package of almost €40,000. The Government working group in respect of dog control issues recommended an increase in the number of dog wardens across the country and a greater degree of monitoring in respect of the enforcement of dog control legislation. The working group was set up following a dog attack on a child in county Wexford that seriously injured the boy and a spate of dog attacks on sheep resulting in a number of fatalities. It is – estimated that approximately 3,000 sheep die in such circumstances annually.
