An orange fire warning is in place until Saturday morning due to a “high risk” of fire over the coming days.

The Department of Agriculture issued the alert stating that due to the current weather patterns, there’s a high fire risk in all areas where hazardous matter exists, such as dead grasses, heather and gorse.

Farmers, rural dwellers and particularly forestry owners and managers are being asked to be extremely vigilant regarding any fire activity and to report any suspicious or illegal fire activity to the gardaí and fire services.

People visiting recreational areas are being asked not to light fires in or near forests or on open land and to keep entrances accessible in case emergency services are required.
