Tipp Parkinsons Association Urges People To Talk About Their Diagnosis

386

The Tipperary Branch of the Parkinsons Association is encouraging people with the brain disorder to talk to their family and friend’s about their diagnosis.

Local PRO Marion Burke believes it’s important for people to tell others about their diagnosis as sometimes people tend to isolate themselves.

April is Parkinsons Awareness Month, the aim is to break the stigma that the disorder is an older person’s disease and to highlight the supports that are out there.

There’s both motor and non motor symptoms, the non motor includes dry mouth, difficulty swallowing, speech issues, fatigue and mood changes while motor symptoms involves stiffness or slowness of muscles movement and tremors.

The local Parkinsons Branch provides a number of supports and you can find out more by contacting Marion Burke on 087 296 7296.
