Two men were charged at Newcastle West Courthouse yesterday in respect of a range of offences in Clare, Westmeath, Leitrim and Tipperary.
The men aged in their 50s and 20s are a father son duo that are now remanded in custody in respect of a range of offences including using a vehicle with false number plates.
The men are charged with a number of theft offences and have been named as Peter Drennan from Mountmellick Road in Portlaoise and his son John with an address at Edenderry in Offaly.
The men were held for questioning in Thurles and Templemore Garda Stations in relation to an attempted theft in Nenagh and the theft of materials from Ronayne’s Hardware, Stakelum’s Hardware and Ballyduff Coop in Thurles and also theft from Midlands Site Supplies in Roscrea.
Businesses in Mullingar, Leitrim and Ennis, mainly in the hardware and building supply trade, were also targeted by the pair.
The men were both remanded in custody after yesterday’s hearing in Newcastle West and were successful in applying for Free Legal Aid.
