Applications for seats on the school transport scheme are now being accepted. New applicants must apply by April 28th. New applicants are pupils attending Junior infants in primary school or first year in post primary for the first time in 2023/24 or pupils with a new home address or attending a new school in 2023/24. Applications for pupils with special educational needs arising from a diagnosed disability should be made through the National Council for Special Education here.
The 2023/2024 school transport scheme is a modified version of last year’s scheme. Charges will apply for children this year. The rates are €50 per child at primary, €75 per student at post primary with a family cap of €125 in place. The service was free of charge last year as a cost of living support measure. Payment for all applicants must be made by June 9th this year.
Full details of the scheme and options to pay or claim a concession due to a medical card entitlement are available at this link here. Children (who are eligible for school transport) and who possess valid Medical Cards (GMS Scheme) are exempt from paying the annual charge; however, their medical card details must be submitted to Bus Éireann.
