Tipperary County Council are now taking applications for social housing in line with the recent changes in income eligibility limits. The new income eligibility threshold for a single person applying to Tipperary County Council as of January 1st has now increased from €25,000 to €30,000. The increased allowances of 5% for each adult household member (subject to a maximum of 10%) and 2.5% for each child (no maximum) are not changing.
This means that the eligibility limits for sample households shown below is as follows –
Single Adult: €30,000, 2 Adults – €31,500, 1 Adult +1 Child – €30,750, 1 Adult +2 Children – €31,500, 2 Adults +1 Child – €32,250, 2 Adults and 3 Children – €33,750, 3 Adults +4 Children – €36,000
Applications assessed and decided upon prior to the 1st January 2023 which were deemed to exceed the income thresholds at that time, but which may meet the new income thresholds, can be resubmitted by applicants. The Council also says any such applicants removed from the social housing waiting list between 18 November 2021 and 31 December 2022 for exceeding income limits but who would now qualify under the new thresholds, can retain the time already accrued or which would have accrued had they remained on the waiting list. These arrangements will remain in place until 30 June 2023.
Fully completed application forms along with all supporting documentation including up to date income details should be submitted to the relevant council housing office in Tipperary town, Clonmel, Nenagh, Carrick on Suir or Thurles. While there are currently over 3,000 people on the social housing list in the county the construction of social housing is expected to increase significantly in the coming years.
