The Tipperary winners of the Student Enterprise Competition were selected during Enterprise week earlier this month. The Students will now go on to represent county at the national finals in Croke Park in May.

The Junior title went to Lamb Feeders (holder for bottles)-  representing Newport College – the team consists of Jack Caplis, Diare Nolan, Luke Ryan and Michael Lynch.

The Intermediate winners are Premier Woodworking(wood products – pens to cheeseboards etc) a team from Thurles CBS made up by Padraic Callanan and Sean Bergin.

The Senior title goes to an all-female team from the Ursuline school in Thurles and trades under the name Phone Kosie (a holder for mobile phones) – the team consists of Kate McKenna, Orla Hayes and Sarah Brett.

The Competition is co-ordinated by Ms Tina Mulhearne on behalf of Tipperary Local Enterprise office and this year her favourite outcome featured the work of four 1st year students at Coláiste Dun Iascaigh who used their idea to do something to benefit others.

The students from Coláiste Dun Iascaigh in Cahir created their business Ard Foireann (The Team) selling their bespoke hand cut timber customised GAA Jersey decorations in Club and County colours.

Having taken part in their Christmas market the boys decided to look at how their product could be a business as well as a good corporate citizen and came up with the idea of using their product to be part of the fundraising campaign for The Dillon Quirke Foundation which was founded to honour Dillon Quirke who passed away of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome on the 5th August 2022.  The campaign aims to raise awareness and save lives by raising funds so that screening happens for every GAA player both male and female from the age of 12 upwards.

Oran Bourke, Rian O’Keeffe, Luke Hackett and Sean Lacey under the direction of their business teachers Ms. Harrahill, Mr. Cunningham and Ms. Trehy have to date raised €28,000 for the Foundation by selling their products in various markets,  retail outlets and at matches etc.
