Children in primary schools and special schools across county Tipperary will benefit from the new free books scheme.
This initiative will provide schoolbooks, workbooks and copybooks and is intended to ease the financial burden facing families during back-to-school- time.
This funding will also provide schools with an Administration Support Grant to assist with the roll out and implementation of the scheme and to help relieve the administrative burden on schools.
The total funding for the scheme nationally is €50M and schools are to get the funding next month to prepare for the 2023 – 2024 academic year.
The schoolbooks purchased under the scheme are the property of the school and must be returned at the end of the school year.
Schools can use the funding to cater for children with special educational needs to purchase related classroom resources once any cost of providing appropriate schoolbooks, workbooks and copybooks is met.
An estimated 19,000 students attend special classes in primary schools and special schools across the country.
The funding works out at approximately €96 per student.
