The Garda College in Templemore has commenced training a new group of Gardaí. 135 recruits began their basic training last month.
The Garda training programme is delivered over 104 weeks leading to a B.A. in Applied Policing. The initial period of 34 weeks including two weeks’ annual leave takes place at The Garda College. Subsequent training takes place predominantly in selected Garda Divisions.
Another existing group of trainees are due to complete their training later this year and Garda Management hope to commence training a further group of recruits in May of this year.
The government has allocated funding to provide up to 1000 additional Gardaí for the force in 2023.
