Residents and public representatives in Limerick are calling on Thurles Councillor Jim Ryan to withdraw comments he made at last week’s Thurles MD meeting when he referenced Moyross speaking about a Thurles housing estate. There have also been calls for Cllr Ryan to apologise for the comment. Mr Ryan asked Tipperary council to take action in the Stradavoher Court Estate which he described as an “eyesore and an embarrassment” saying it is “becoming the Moyross of Tipperary and it’s a disgrace.”

Limerick TD Maurice Quinlivan posted that Moyross is “a great vibrant community- with a wonderful primary school,  Project Believe – a magical Christmas event, a super Soccer club, a first class community centre, a youth academy, super playground and concluded by saying “If Cllr Ryan saw Moyross he wouldn’t be spouting such nonsense.”  Cllr Olivia Mitchell, Limerick is also calling on Cllr Ryan to apologise and withdraw the comment saying “she struggled to understand how a Tipperary public representative thought it ok to bring Moyross into his issue without a thought for the community affected.” Four of the houses in the Stradavoher Court estate were seriously damaged in a fire in 2021 and several houses in the estate are vacant and boarded up. NOVAs, the housing body, is in talks to purchase 11 of the houses to try to improve the well-being of the estate.
