An open invitation has been issued to schools, community groups, organisations, clubs, societies and businesses in Tipperary town and the wider hinterland to participate in the Parade. The Parade is to start at 2pm – those taking part are asked to assemble at The Plan on Davitt Street – for Larger floats or HGVs taking part, the assembly area is at The Plaza on the Limerick Road. The route of march is via O’Brien Street along the Main Street and ending just past Bank Place in the Lidl car park.
The organisers are also running a competition for the Best Presented St Patrick’s Window and will hold a Children’s colouring competition in advance of March 17th with the winner presented with their prize on the day. There were also prizes for the best parade entries – details to be finalised in the coming weeks.
Entertainment and enjoyment are the key messages from the organisers and a sound system will run the length of Main Street to help create an atmosphere and to keep the audience informed. Musicians interested in performing on the day are also most welcome to make contact with the Committee. The Committee meetings will rotate around various venues in the Town to bring people to new locations that they may not have visited previously – the organisers are also appealing to people to attend the parade and shop local while doing so for green ice cream, coffees and refreshments. The organisers have applied to Tipperary County Council for financial support to stage the event and say to date there has been huge goodwill and support for the event. An Garda Siochana and Tipperary town Chamber are also very helpful in enabling the event to go ahead and the Committee want to acknowledge this. Drivers are advised that the route for the Parade will close approximately 15 minutes before and after the Parade – approximately between 1.45pm and 4.15pm on Friday March 17th.
