Thurles woman Kerry Condon won the BAFTA award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the Martin McDonagh film – The Banshees of Inisherin – the film also won the award for Best Original Screenplay and Barry Keoghan won for best supporting Actor.
This is the first BAFTA win for both actors
Ms Condon has been involved in several McDonagh stage and screen productions and thanked him for his contribution to her career.
Ms Condon also thanked her family for their support when she travelled to pursue her career.
Ms Condon acknowledged Sir Alan Parker who gave Ms Condon her first film role in Angela’s Ashes in 1999.
Finally, Ms Condon also praised her animals – horses and dogs for the love and meaning they provide in her life.
The Banshees also won for Best British Film as it was made by UK based company Film4 amongst others.
The Awards were presented in London last night. The Irish language film An Cailín Ciúin did not secure any awards despite having two nominations.
The Awards are considered an indicator of possible Oscar success next month – before then the film industry will present the highly important Producers and Screen Writer Guild Awards next weekend in the US.
All Quiet on the Western Front was the biggest winner of the night with seven BAFTAs – this was the 76th Annual British Academy Film Awards.
