Concerns are being expressed about the presence of knifes in the wider community and the increasing number of knives seized by Garda in recent years.
The number seized has increased from 1341 in 2013 to 2132 in 2022.
In a ten year period the highest number seized was 2257 in 2020.
The figures are based upon operational data from the PULSE system as was available on 10 January 2023 and are liable to change.
There were 240 knifes seized by Garda in county Tipperary between 2016 and 2021.
The Aontu party describes this as a staggering level of hidden danger and questions if the existing punishment is enough.
