Animal welfare issues continue to place demands on State and Voluntary Services. Today the ISPCA and Cork County Council are beginning a major operation to rehome 218 dogs from a facility in Doneraile. The dog breeding facility was issued with a closure notice following and inspection by council vets in December. The operator has appealed the order closure order which directed her to rehome the dogs at her own expense by giving or selling them to individuals or animal rescue shelters.
The animals were found to be in terrible conditions lacking food, shelter and water. The work is starting with the smaller dogs such as Pomeranians and Yorkshire terriers and will then try to rehome the larger breeds including Labradors and German Shepherds.
