Local councillors are to be given an update on vacant houses in the District at the February meeting.
Councillor Roger Kennedy asked for details to be provided by the housing section as to how soon social houses listed as vacant can be allocated.
The district has 70 social houses vacant at present. Of these 24 are listed as being available for allocation, 26 need minor repairs, 7 need major repairs and 14 are listed as being derelict or as being demountable structures.
Cllr Mairin Mcgrath welcomed news that 12 houses will soon be offered on the Choice Based letting portal in Cahir.
The council uses the Choice Based letting model for allocating some houses but as an estimated 30% of applicants on the Social Housing list do not engage with the process the council is reluctant to allocate all social houses via the portal.
