Over 30 jobs are to be lost in the Carrick on Suir area as Corman Miloko announced it will cease operations at the end of June due to declining production orders. The company, established in 2005, is a joint venture between Belgian company Corman and Tirlán(formerly Glanbia) manufacturing dairy products. Tipperary TD Jackie Cahill is seeking a meeting with Chief Executive of Tirlán, Jim Bergin and the Minister for Enterprise, Simon Coveney to identify a new use for the facility which has been adapted over the years. It originally started producing chocolate crumb, before moving to mozzarella cheese, and currently produces butter spreads and fats.
Unite Trade Union hopes some staff can be redeployed to the Miloko operation in Ballyragget or to other parts of Tirlán. Tipperary Sinn Féin TD Martin Browne and Councillor David Dunne based in Carrick on Suir are also calling for urgent action by the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
