Two Retail Premises To Cease Operation In Coming Weeks In Tipp Town

1980

Two retail premises on Tipperary Main Street are to cease operations in the coming weeks.

Kingston’s shoes  which has been in operation as a shoe store since approximately 1911 is due to close on January 21st.

The leaseholder George Whitford says as the lease is up he will take the opportunity to reduce his work load.

Two staff are employed at the store – one for 17 years and one for over 26 years.

Mr Whitford will continue to operate his stores in Nenagh and Kilkenny which trade under the Shoe Corner trade name.

His shoe retail business began in Birr in 1970 when he operated Whitford’s Department Store – after a number of years farming at his home in Cloughjordan he decided take on less physical work in  2014 and opened his Nenagh store.

The Tipperary town shop has been trading since 2018 and the owner and staff are expressing thanks and gratitude to the customers that have been so loyal to the store over the years keeping staff in employment.

Mr Whitford is also grateful to Kingston family for their support and assistance over the years.

At lunch time today the “Closing Down Sale!” notices went up in Wellworths on Main Street – more to follow
