Gardaí in Tipperary Town are appealing to the public to be vigilant following a number of thefts of home heating oil in the past number of days.
There was widespread revulsion in response to news of an oil theft on Tuesday evening in the Cashel Road/Crogue area when the victims were two pensioners.
Garda are advising householders to check the oil levels in their tanks regularly and where possible to arrange smaller deliveries.
Security perimeter lighting should be increased around homes and shrubs or fencing erected to screen the view of any tanks from the road according to Garda.
Anyone that notices any suspicious vehicles in their estate or in the vicinity of their property is asked to note the registration plates and inform the local Garda Station as soon as possible.
Tipperary Town Garda Station can be contacted on 062-80670 or alternatively any information can be given to the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111.
