Tipperary Tidy Towns group has welcome the latest IBAL litter league report. The town was rated clean to European norms and ranked 23rd of the 40 towns included in the survey. Naas was ranked as the cleanest town in the survey. Tipperary Tidy towns group says the town is ambitious for a better ranking in 2023. The group is thanking all residents and businesses that contribute to the effort to make Tipperary town litter free. The final 2022 national survey has shown a significant rise in the numbers of areas deemed clean across Ireland. Three quarters of the 40 cities and towns surveyed were clean, compared to just over half this time last year.
IBAL says the planned introduction of a Deposit Return Scheme for bottles and cans will help with littering but points out that cigarette litter is a persistent problem. The survey is conducted by An Taisce on behalf of Irish Business Against Litter. The organisation is an alliance of companies sharing a belief that the continued economic prosperity – notably in the areas of tourism, food and direct foreign investment is contingent on a clean, litter free environment. In addition, IBAL believes all citizens have the right to a clean living environment.
