AIB Cashel & Cahir Banks Set To Become Cashless
AIB in Cahir and Cashel are among 70 branches which are set to become cashless as part of a deepening relationship with An Post.
The decision will mean that withdrawal of cash service will be impacted, the company says its making the change due to declining demand for those services.
It’s part of an investment programme of over €40 million, which includes completing the hiring for 500 digital roles by year end.
Its also been confirmed that Roscrea and Carrick-in-Suir will be impacted and it will happen as soon as September.
The company says changes will allow those branches to focus more on account opening, financial planning, mortgages, loans, savings and investments.
With digital usage soaring, the cost of providing cash services has become increasingly unsustainable.
As a result, cash, ATM and cheque services will be removed from these branches but customers will continue to have efficient access to cash in their communities.
Under its enhanced 20 year “AIB at An Post” arrangement, bank customers wishing to access cash can do so locally at any of the country’s c. 920 Post Offices that offer extended opening hours, including Saturday opening, across the national post office network.
At their local Post Office, customers can also withdraw up to €1,500 in cash per day from their AIB current account and lodge up to €5,000 a week in cash.
Businesses can lodge up to €50,000 by prior arrangement with the Post Office. All customers can lodge euro cheques to their current account.
Customers can also use Billpay and foreign exchange services at An Post.
This idea from AIB was soon scrapped following a public outcry.

An Garda Síochána has launched a new Property App that allows the public to index and record their personal property, for example, bicycles, laptops, farm machinery etc.
The app will enable members of the public to take photographs, record receipts, store registration codes, and photograph the property markings.
The app is designed as completely standalone. It can be downloaded for free on Google Play Store or the Apple Store. It can also be downloaded from the Garda website. Any information entered into the app is then either stored locally on the device, or backed up to the user’s cloud account. No data will be stored by An Garda Síochána.
In the situation where the user has their property stolen, the app also has the facility to report the theft to An Garda Síochána. The benefit of having all of the records on their App is that an Investigating Garda will have access to better and more detailed information on the stolen property, such as serial numbers, receipts, images of the stolen items all of which will assist with the investigation. If stolen property recovered by An Garda Síochána, it is more easily returned to its rightful owner provided a record is kept of identifiable information.

An independent councillor is blaming Irish Water for the major flooding incident in Thurles.
Jim Ryan believes the utility company has failed the residents and businesses in Friar Street.
Several incidents of severe flooding were reported in the town last night as the drainage system was unable to cope with the intense rain – emergency services and members of the public used their vehicles to block off streets.
Streets were badly flooded especially Friar Street, Kickham Street. Templemore Road, Stradavoher, Sarsfield Street, Emmet Street, Na Fianna Road, Kickham Street, Oakfield Drive, St Brendan’s Terrace and Cathedral Street.
Roads from Holycross were impassable.
In some incidents residents have shared footage of flooding in their property or were seen to be working to relieve blocked shores.
The flooding on Friar Street is a repeat of flooding that has occurred several times previously due to a mismatch in piping to remove waste water.
Properties on the streets are inundated with very dirty water from the system when flooding occurs.
It is understood that a larger pipe feeds into a smaller pipe on Croke street – this becomes overwhelmed and the water then backs up onto the street.
Vehicles moving on the street can cause an additional wash back into the properties on both sides of the street.
The rainfall yesterday was intense and is likely the result of Climate Change.
Several incidents of gullies blocked with leaves, grit and in some cases material left following repairs by Irish water have been documented by local man George Willoughby.
Tipperary County Council engineers have confirmed that some of these locations have been passed to Irish Water for repair.
Upgrades to the waste system has been discussed several times between Irish Water and Tipperary County Council.
Thurles Municipal District Council meets today and the issue is likely to be discussed again.
Tipp Mid West Radio has sought a response from Thurles MD and Tipperary County Council.
