Independent Councillor Calling For Guarantee That Towns Must Have One Financial Institution

An Independent councillor is calling on the new Finance Minister to guarantee that towns must have at least one financial institution.

Cllr Andy Moloney says former Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe response to his motion seeking assurance was not good enough.

It follows the closure of Bank of Ireland branch in Cahir last year and the attempt to remove cash services at AIB branches in Cahir and Cashel.

Cllr Moloney believes the Post Office network should be given more services and that tourism town like Cahir needs easy access to banking services.
