Thurles Lions Club in conjunction with Thurles Lions Trust Housing Association will hold two open days for the public to view the recently refurbished “Stanwix Village” formerly the “Stanwix Homes” or “Widows Home”, Kickham Street, Thurles.
The main contractor Leetherm, based in Fethard, are expected to be ready to hand over the project to the Thurles Lions Trust Housing Association shortly and tenants will be identified early in the new year.
The work on the old units, originally opened in 1889 involved combining two into one to provide more spacious accommodation. The new build includes 5 new own door bungalow apartments and a 5-bed community home.
The opening days are being held over this weekend on Saturday December 17th, 2022 – 11.00am to 3.00pm and on Sunday December 18th, 2022 – 11.00am to 3.00pm.
The project has been well received in the wider community as it upgrades the existing building and provides additional facilities including a community house and garden. It is understood that the Lions Trust has also acquired two vacant and derelict properties adjacent to the project. In all the Housing Trust has provided up to 80 units of accommodation in Thurles.
