Tipperary county council has published a design for an active travel scheme between the Technological University of the Shannon and Castlemeadows at the Bothar na Naomh Junction.
The details are published as part of a Part 8 Planning application and the public can make submissions up to Feb 14th .
The proposal is for a new pedestrian – cycle facility on both sides of the R 498 – Nenagh road. The raised cycle tracks will be 1.5M wide and cover a total of 700m.
Footpaths in the area will also be upgraded with minimum width of 1.8m. The roadway will be reduced to 6.5m to reduce vehicle speeds.
A new bus set down area will be installed adjacent to Coláiste Mhuire. Additional Controlled and uncontrolled pedestrian and cyclist road crossings will be installed and there will be new artwork, to celebrate Thurles as the birthplace of the GAA, at the entrance to Semple Stadium which may be lit at night.
