National Broadband Ireland is reporting progress in providing high-speed Fibre-to-the-Home network under the National Broadband Plan as 1,021 premises in Roscrea and nearby areas are available to order or pre-order broadband on the National Broadband Ireland network.
30,000 premises in County Tipperary are included in the State’s Intervention Area, which will see National Broadband Ireland deliver minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second to homes, businesses, farms, and schools. The State is investing €118M in the provision of improved broadband service in the county. This follows the connection of premises in Clonmel and Tipperary Town where a total of over 4,400 homes, farms, and businesses can join the National Broadband Ireland network.
National Broadband Ireland operates as wholesaler for the network and does not sell fibre broadband directly to end users, rather it enables services from a range of broadband providers.
Under the National Broadband Plan, 559,000 premises nationwide are included in the Intervention Area, which was established by the Government to identify areas where commercial operators are not currently providing access to high-speed broadband or do not intend to.
Some 57 such retailers have already signed up to sell services on the National Broadband Ireland network and 44 are certified as ready to start providing connections as of today. Details of these companies are available on NBI.ie/buy.
