The Swimming Pool at the Garda college in Templemore is to re-open for Garda Recruits and local schools by the end of November.
Tipp Mid West Radio understands that the Taoiseach directly intervened today on foot of a request from Tipperary TD Jackie Cahill.
The Thurles based TD had raised the matter earlier today in the Dáil and was dissatisfied with the response given on behalf of the Minister for Justice that the Department had no role to play in operational matters concerning An Garda Siochana.
We Just Want To Swim Templemore are pleased with the Taoiseach’s intervention and welcomes news of access for schools to use the swimming pool.
The group are insisting that the licencing system be made operational so that access for the wider community via Friday night classes can continue to be offered as they have been for over 40 years.
The re-opening has been confirmed by Tipperary TD Michael Lowry. Deputy Lowry says the Minister for Justice has confirmed to him that the Garda Training College has been instructed to re-open the pool to both Garda Recruits and local schools by the end of November.
This development is in sharp contrast to the Minister’s response earlier today delivered on her behalf by Minister Frank Feighan.
