The Minister for Justice is being urged to deliver extra Garda resources to tackle rural crime.

Tipperary farmers say their having a “recurring problem” of groups of men with dogs trespassing and posing a threat to livestock.

The issue has been on the agenda for public meetings and IFA gatherings.

IFA deputy president Brian Rushe says he is seeking a meeting with Minister Helen McEntee.

He is to ask the Minister to change laws in relation to trespass tied into owners and occupiers’ liability insurance.

Concerns are also being expressed about the slow pace of training new Garda to ensure retirements and resignations do not lead to gaps in resources.
