Concerns continue to be expressed about flooding and a lack of maintenance of gullies and water infrastructure in Thurles.
Flooding was reported yesterday at the junction of Emmet street and Thomond road.
Thurles Info reports that Anti-flood flaps/valves fitted to Emmett street storm drains do not appear to be functioning presently as water accumulates at the corner after rainfall.
Sandbags are being used to protect residences across the street.
The area was badly flooded on October 16tth.
There are two flood barriers near the junction that were intended to prevent flooding from the river entering the street – on October 16th one of the barriers prevented rainfall from leaving the street as water accumulated possibly due to a blocked or malfunctioning outlet to the river Suir.
Thurles Municipal District are now being asked to monitor and temporarily lift the flood barriers to allow the vast majority of flood water to escape back into the river and to ensure the drains are not blocked and will function properly.
