The Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien is to bring a proposal to Cabinet today to introduce a temporary eviction ban in order to provide additional protection for renters.
It is understood that the proposal is a time-bound measure – believed to be between the beginning of November and the end of March – in which renters who complied with the rules could not be evicted from their homes.
The Minister says that the measures “would be significant” and contended that a no-fault eviction ban was needed.
The Minister is also seeking to balance the rights of landlords in the proposal and not cause landlords to leave the private rental market.
