Tipperary councillors yesterday supported a motion from Cllr Andy Moloney calling for the Finance Minister to ensure that every town has a bank offering cash services.
Cllr Andy Moloney put the motion to ensure that no town in Tipperary will be left without a bank offering all services following the threat of AIB to reduce their services recently involving the closure of a number of branches and restrictions in cash services. The Cahir based councillor believes that such a move is premature until such time as the infrastructure is in place to cater for a cashless society.
Cllr Moloney also highlighted the importance of tourism to towns like Cahir and Cashel and noted that these visitors, many of whom come from the cruises into Waterford , prefer to withdraw euros and when visiting.
The motion was proposed by Cllr Michael Murphy and seconded by Cllr Declan Burgess who stated that Cashel was also at threat of such a downgrade.
The motion will now be sent to Mr Paschal Donohue , Minister of Finance for comment and response
