Sinn Fein Calls For Immediate Clarity On Plans To Tackle Electricity Cost

Sinn Féin TD for Tipperary Martin Browne says that the government must provide immediate clarity for businesses and homeowners regarding their plans to tackle the rising costs of electricity.

According to the ERSI 29% of households in Ireland are now experiencing fuel poverty, a situation that will only get worse as prices are set to rise even further.

Deputy Browne says business owners have contacted his office as they have seen their electricity bills more than double and will see them double again based on the projected prices.

The Cashel based TD says action is required from the government in the form of a windfall tax on energy companies, targeted payments to help households that are struggling with energy costs, all consumers offered the lowest available tariff and an extended ban on disconnections.

Deputy Browne is also seeking urgent action on retrofitting homes to protect those living in and at risk of energy poverty
