Supporters of Handball and heritage in Tipperary are calling on the public to back a plea for funding to repair the Tipperary Town Handball Alley located in the Tipperary Hills.
Campaigners say the responsibility lies with Tipperary County Council and are urging remedial works before the facility deteriorates further.
The alley measures 60 x 30 feet and is an outdoor alley made from concrete.
The call now is for members of the public to lobby the local council for action to repair the court area and the viewing area.
The Tipperary Town Task Force has been allocated €500,000 for enhancement works in the Hills however none of this funding is allocated to the Handball alley.
The sport is a global sport and enables increased sociability within communities as it requires virtually no equipment to participate.
In addition the sport has a long record in Gaelic games with several All Ireland winners coming from this very court such as John Cleary, Willie Fitzgibbon and Sean Callahan.
The sport is run under the auspices of the GAA , has a national centre of excellence in Dublin and is undergoing a renaissance as a five year development strategy is underway to 2025.
