The Homeless report from the Department of Housing has been published for the month of July.
The number of people in emergency accommodation across the country reached 10,568 last month – the highest number ever recorded.
The July figure is 76 higher than the June Report and includes 5,140 single adults and 3,137 children.
The Report reveals that 56 people are recorded as homeless in county Tipperary down from June’s figure of 61.
Organisations working in the Housing sector have described the situation as bleak and urgent. Dublin Simon Community has called on the Government to work with the charity on a crisis plan as a matter of urgency as the number of people in emergency accommodation continues to increase.
Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien said the Government, local authorities and NGOs are making every effort to reduce homelessness.
Minister O’Brien highlighted that there are 18 actions in the Housing for All plan to end homelessness.
He said that funding is in place to deliver 10,500 social homes this year, including 9,000 new build houses.
Focus Ireland has called for a ban on evictions and Government action to keep landlords in the sector.
According to figures from the Residential Tenancies Board, there were almost 3,000 notices to quit issued by landlords between January and the end of June this year.
