Events to mark heritage week will take place in Tipperary Town Today.
The morning mass at St Michael’s Church has been offered for deceased former workers at the town’s Glove Factories.
The offertory gifts included some gloves made by these people and a ledger from the Glove Factory.
A Film about the Glove industry in Tipperary town will be premiered at the Excel Centre at 8pm tonight accompanied by an exhibition of related memorabilia and artefacts.
This film documentary traces the gloving industry from its beginning in the early 1900’s to the 1970’s.
The film is a tribute to the men & women who worked in this industry, especially those working from home (doing piece work, ie. paid according to their output).
This is a free event but booking is advised – Tel: 062 82050
At 5pm today a group is gathering at Knockanrawley Resource Centre to plant some apple trees.
Three of these will be planted in Pearse Park as a gesture of appreciation for the efforts of adult and junior residents to improve the area.
Annemarie Ryan Cllr in conjunction with the Tipp Town Revitalisation task force and Tipperary Tidy Towns are issuing an invitation for community members to attend.
The Irish Apple trees were sourced from Joe’s Garden Centre & Gift Shop and all are welcome.
