Tipperary Sinn Féin TD Martin Browne is calling for urgent action to cut school uniform costs.
The TD says school uniform costs are far too high and are putting huge pressure on families’ finances.
Deputy Browne says the cost of uniform is a huge burden in the context of the cost of living increases experienced by families in the last 12 months.
The TD say Sinn Féin are committed to cutting back to school costs in terms of uniforms, books and school Transport.
In regard the Uniforms the Party are proposing legislation to ensure that every school has an affordable uniform policy, that no child is disadvantaged by not being able to afford a particular item, by ensuring that parents can buy these items in multiple retailers and that they are at an affordable price.
Deputy Browne called on the Government to support Sinn Féin’s legislation to deliver a much-needed break for families hit by the cost of living crisis.
The government has abolished school transport fees for this year as an exceptional measure and has increased the back to school allowance for those eligible for the payment
